For us at Bolton Gate Arts, July has been a very exciting (and rainy) month. The farm has hosted a variety of events: from theatre shows to open mic nights and twilight markets. With the addition of our new social media Interns Lauren and Katie, we are eager to show our local communities what the Bolton Gate Arts experience is like. So, Lauren thought that she would give you a summary of our month...
GIGZ@THEGATE - Saturday 1st July
The first event of the month is always a widespread favourite for our audiences- GIGZ@THEGATE! This open-mic night takes place every first Saturday of the month from May-September and it never disappoints!
The atmosphere was electric, with a huge variety of genres, dancing and an immense community feel.
GIGZ@THEGATE is a free event showcasing local talent, and is a great opportunity to grab some refreshments from our cafe and watch some incredible live performances.
Twilight Markets - Saturday 8th July
Our twilight market ran from 4pm - 9pm and provided a great combination of returning favourites and new additions.
The aim of our markets is to encourage our community to #shoplocal and this month saw a variety of over 30 food, gifts, home decor and beauty stalls.
Despite the rainy weather conditions, we really appreciated those who came out to support the variety of local small businesses.
Our next market will be our Harvest Market on Saturday 14th October 10am - 3pm so get it in your diaries now!
A Midsummer Nights Dream The Musical- Saturday 15th July
Unfortunately, Boxtree Productions' performance of 'A Midsummer Nights Dream- The Musical' was postponed due to extreme weather conditions. Luckily, they will be returning to the farm on Sunday 13th August at 2.30pm instead so the show will go on!
'A Midsummer Nights Dream-The Musical' is a classical Shakespearean play transformed into a musical extravanganza. The production is adapted into modern language for all the family to enjoy, which will have you singing, laughing and dancing in your seats.
Although we were hugely disappointed at the show's cancellation due to unforeseen weather conditions, Bolton Gate Arts are so excited for the rescheduled performance and there are still tickets available!
Robin Hood- Friday 21st July
Illyria Theatre returned for the second time to the farm with their production of 'Robin Hood'- a fantastic, interactive performance which had us on the edge of our seats! With archery competitions and sword fighting, children and adults alike were fully absorbed into the story!
My favourite sections were the interactive features, where children were brought on stage to throw wet sponges at the prisoner!
We had some great feedback with this production:
'Robin Hood was brilliant entertainment'
'I thought Robin Hood was brilliant: I was laughing, smiling and joining in the whole show'
Bad Dad- Friday 28th July
To finish off the month, Heartbreak Productions performed 'BAD DAD'- a play based on the book written by the popular children's author and TV personality - David Walliams!
Bad Dad was a hilarious, interactive performance which combined dancing, singing and comedy.
Feedback from our audiences said:
'A very entertaining performance'
'A very clever performance for adults and children alike - hilarious'
'A great adaptation of a children's story'
